About Bomboiza
The Association of Shuar Nationality Centers of Bomboiza is a grassroots, nonprofit organization that represents and brings together approximately 4,500 members in 26 centers (communities). These communities autonomously occupy and manage a total land reserve of 21,448.10 hectares. This territory is located in the Bomboiza parish of the Gualaquiza canton, in the province of Morona Santiago, in the southeast of the Republic of Ecuador.
The Association of Shuar Nationality Centers of Bomboiza strives for the social, cultural, economic, and political development and well-being of its members and affiliated centers. It safeguards their right to land and territory, to free and high-quality bilingual and intercultural education, to self-governance and comprehensive governance of their associated centers, aiming for autonomous control and management of their lands and natural resources. It defends the collective rights of all its members within a participatory democracy that seeks to strengthen cultural identity, the distinctive forms of social organization, and the collective rights of the Shuar nationality as recognized in the Political Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples.
